The Wordle #1,947 answer for October 18, 2026 is:
How Wordle Works, in Case You're New
The rules of Wordle haven't changed since it launched: six guesses, one secret five-letter word. Green locks in a letter's position, yellow says the letter's in the word but needs to move, and gray crosses that letter off the list entirely. Everybody gets the same puzzle each day, and it refreshes at midnight local time — not a single fixed moment worldwide. Winning comes down to using those six chances efficiently enough to corner the word before you're out of guesses.

Choosing a Strong Starting Word
A good first guess works like a diagnostic — it's meant to test letters, not land the answer. Think in terms of letter coverage, not guessing luck — a word built from E, A, R, T, O, I, N or S, with no repeats, simply teaches you more per guess. ROAST, TONER and IRATE all fit that bill.
Don't overlook common endings either — -ER, -LY, -ED and -ING show up at the end of plenty of English words, so keeping an eye on likely endings can narrow things down almost as fast as a strong opener.
After that, the standard rules apply: skip letters you've already confirmed are gray, and always try a yellow letter in a different spot rather than dropping it. Or let our Wordle Solver handle the filtering for you once you've entered what you know.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is today's Wordle answer?
The answer to Wordle #1,947, for October 18, 2026, is [ANSWER]. You'll find it spelled out in the tile-reveal section below if you want to confirm it directly rather than reading through the hints.
What Wordle number is today?
Today is Wordle #1,947, dated October 18, 2026. The count has gone up by exactly one every single day since the game's 2021 public launch.
What is Wordle, and who made it?
Created by software engineer Josh Wardle, Wordle started as a private 2013 project before going public in 2021. The New York Times purchased it in early 2022 and still operates it as part of NYT Games.
How many guesses do I get in Wordle?
Six guesses total. Every guess must be a real, accepted five-letter word — Wordle will reject non-words — and the tile colors update after each attempt to tell you which letters are right and where.
Does the Wordle answer change at midnight?
Yes — but specifically midnight in your own local time zone, not a fixed worldwide moment. That's why the "new day" can arrive at a different real-world time for players in different places.
Is this site affiliated with Wordle or The New York Times?
No. This page is an independent, unaffiliated source for the daily answer and hints. The New York Times owns and operates the actual Wordle game.
Can I play past Wordle puzzles?
Free public replay of old puzzles was removed by The New York Times, which now runs its own subscriber-only archive. For a free option, this page's recent-answers table covers the last several days.
What should I do if the hints don't help me finish the puzzle?
Type what you already know — your green, yellow and gray letters — into our free Wordle Solver, and it will filter a full word list down to only the entries that still fit your clues.
What is Wordle's Hard Mode?
Hard Mode is an optional setting, toggled in the game's menu, that requires any green or yellow letter you've already found to be reused in your next guess instead of being dropped. It doesn't change the answer, just how strictly you must use your own clues.
